Club History & Achievements
USYDTT is a part of Sydney University Sport and Fitness, established in 1903 (as Sydney University Sports Union), the single biggest producer through history of Austrlian international level athletes and an organization dedicated to providing accessible quality sport and fitness offerings to students and the community. Sydney Uni had a permanent table tennis centre within what is now the Arena Sports Centre up to the 1980s and table tennis was built up at the Uni from scratch by Geoff Henry in the mid 90s and again by a number of dedicated players at the beginning of the 21st Century to the point wher we now have 12 tables and have been able to establish regular training sessions, a solid membership base, coaching and much more. Table tennis players at Sydney Uni have included:
Kiet Tran (current Australian Rank #3)
Daryn Lu (NSW U21 Rank #1, 2005)
Sisi Zhang (NSW Women's Rank #1, 2006)
Geoff Henry (former TTNSW president)
Bird Chan (Eastern Universities Champion, 2004)
Dereck Eu (ex HK national junior training squad)
and many more open and grade players. Our players have competed at national championships, world junior championships and numerous state and distric competitions. We won Eastern Universities Championships in 2002 and 2006 and hosted them in 2005. Coaches we have had include Paul Zhou (NSW Head coach) and Peter Ma (NSW L3 coach, formerly Tas. Head coach and a trainer for Deng Ya Ping). In addition to club membership and benefits, elite level players can apply to SUSF for the talented athlete programme providing benefits like study and time management counselling, and assistance with sports psychology, physiotherapy, nutrition and conditioning guidance, and even some scholarships awarded competitively amongst all Sydney Uni athletes.
